Cumhuriyet’in ilanı, bir milletin kendi kaderini tayin etme iradesinin en somut ifadesidir.
29 Ekim 1923’te, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk ve silah arkadaşlarının önderliğinde Türkiye, yüzyıllardır süren saltanat düzenine son vererek halkın egemenliğine dayanan yeni bir devlet sistemine geçti.
Cumhuriyet, yalnızca bir yönetim biçimi değil; aynı zamanda bir zihniyet devrimidir. Halkın birey olarak değer kazandığı, eşit haklara sahip olduğu, özgür düşüncenin filizlendiği bir dönemin kapılarını aralamıştır. Bu yönüyle Cumhuriyet, geçmişle gelecek arasında kurulan en sağlam köprüdür.
O gün atılan adım, yalnızca bir rejim değişikliği değil, bir milletin yeniden doğuşuydu. Eğitimden hukuka, sanattan bilime kadar her alanda “çağdaşlaşma” hedefi Cumhuriyet’in yol haritası olmuştur.
Bugün bizlere düşen görev, Cumhuriyet’i sadece bir tarih sayfası olarak değil, her gün yeniden anlamak, korumak ve geleceğe taşımaktır. Çünkü Cumhuriyet, yalnızca 1923’te kazanılmış bir zafer değil, her neslin yeniden inşa etmesi gereken bir değerler bütünüdür.

On October 29, 1923, under the leadership of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and his comrades, Turkey ended centuries of monarchical rule and adopted a new system of government based on the sovereignty of the people.
